Can still be open-hearted
Not so coldly charted, it’s really just a question
Of your honesty, yeah, your honesty.
In what could be our best podcast EVER we get in touch with our inner mountain bike selves, we go north of the border and seek out sage coaching wisdom, we re-aquaint ourselves with Alva, we do math. It is not coldly charted, it really is a question of our honestly, yeah, our honesty.
We start with the usual ramblings where John K. confesses to be possessed by the spirit of the Pilot, then an interview of Sonya Looney, Ergon Topeak Pro mountain biker chick. What?!?? Mountain Bike… It was at the request of the Tri-Babes from Colorado. Next we move into (Emotional) Listener Feedback: Alva returns!! the Pants Man continues to deceive, Hedgemonkey abuses and breaks his equipment, NC Skinny Legs asks 3 questions, Man-Child does his cx bike a disservice, the Polish Sausage seeks power (and wins LFBOTW), Red Kayak goes aero, Auditor Blue bears witness to cx shenanigans, Sombrero Malo asks if we lurk and challenges our math skills, Trigreyhound consumes media, MG Matthew is fixed, Frieza asks about coffee and cold weather, no nickname thinks he needs a hybrid (but he doesn’t),
FRR gets advice from Canuck Coach Steve, EPO Man doesn’t stink, A Marine says don’t call him a sailor, Foothill Roadie gets S.M.A.R.T., and the Mild Stallion takes LSD and whines.

Thanks to Alva for the advice about the chilly nether regions. I too have suffer from the ’slug effect’ much to my wife’s astonishment.
Since my email I have taken to wearing a second pair of shorts (old pair, not bibs, without much of a pad) under my bibshorts. I might try the tights option if I am feeling kinky.

I spent some time in Brazil and I would not reccommend riding a bike there. They drive like maniacs, there are no shoulders and the cars rule. Bikes also have a tendency to walk away pretty fast and easy. You’re in Brazil, take in the beach and if you feel like taking your life into your own hands, attend a soccer game.
John?….John?…. Bueler?…. Anyone?….Anyone?…. Good Podcast. The John G dropouts were priceless.
Thanks for the info Western Superfan. I’ll leave the bike at home for sure. Not worth it if I’ll be too stressed out to enjoy it. Maybe I’ll plan a return trip to the Algarve in the Fall to get my international ride in.
Nice rack… Here’s the link to the rack who’s name I could not remember http://www.1upusa.com/1upusarackhome.htm
We’ve received a few emails re. cycling in Brazil. A Brazilian from Sau Paulo says, “The answer is NO NO NO do not and I repeat do not bring your bike to São Paulo. São Paulo roads are a mess and not safe. Specially not knowing the area, you could easily get lost and end up in a not so safe area, where they kidnap people like, one of the Johns said. Also you are going to be part of a weeding, that should be your goal. Bringing a bike can make things harder. I have been part of four weddings in the past few years. And things never go 100% as planned. I could go on and on with reasons not to bring your bike. I would suggest to bring a running shoes or find a gym.”
Regarding the nether regions, since global warming is in full effect in the NE, this winter has been pretty d@mn cold, I started covering the “region” with a cotton glove. Works like a charm, after 3 hrs in bone chilling low 20’s, the boys were fine, no turtle/slug effect.
I was in Brazil a few times last year and saw them scraping a dead roadie off the street. Seriously, do not ride a bike (or a motorcycle, or a car, just stay indoors) in Sao Paulo. There are probably places in Brazil to ride but Sao Paulo is not the one. My host was very proud of his new bulletproof vest. Maybe he was paranoid but I was in no position to argue.
Mexico City is a cakewalk by comparison (I drove a lot), but New Delhi has the scariestdrivers.
Sydney and Melbourne were sort of scary, mostly because I was on the wrong side of the road most of the time. I’ve got unpaid speeding tickets in Victoria! They drive like old ladies.

Having visited the mad beirdy wierdy city of Tehran a few times . The traffic i can only describe as mental, a cycle i here you say , i would only drive a centurian tank in that city . I may not be welcome there now as i have slagged off the bierdy wierdy mad bad mullas too much. Last visit i did make the point of going by the American Embassy its still there fellas, however i did not stay long as there was too many shifty eyed bierdy boys looking at me.
FRR
echo the brasil sentiment. under no circumstances should anyone use a bike for any reason in that country.
I beg to differ. I respect everyones opinion, however if you can get your hands on a decent mountain bike there are plenty of areas where you can unwind whilst pedaling. Be carefull, pay close attention. Road bikes are not the be all end all in the cycling world.
