2 videos from the recent Single Speed World Championships which took place this past weekend out in Portland. Thanks to John OT from Portland for the submissions. The third video is from listener “hard cheese” in the UK. It contains some foul language, be warned, but also a completely familiar conversation between club manger/race organizer and a whinging team member.

Me: Good morning, how are you?
Recumbent pilot: ahhhh….good.
Me: What the hell is that thing? A car? A Bike?
Recumbent Pilot: It’s a bike.
Me: Oh, that’s good. It looks like a Mango (the fruit)
Recumbent Pilot: Yeah, it does! Climbing the hills is hard though… It is heavy.
Me: Yeah, it looks pretty heavy
Recumbent Pilot: yeah…..
Me: Well, have a good effort today!
Recumbent Pilot: Sure, OK.

Wow. Ok. 1- where were you riding? 2- who made that thing? 3- what happens when he comes to a stop? 4- can Japanese people grow beards?

#1. Motegi Twin Ring Speedway. http://www.twinring.jp/map_m/
(Honda Test track) They built it to try and get the Indy cars popular in Japan but it never worked. We did a combination of the Road course (blue) and 3/4 of the oval. It was a 4 hour enduro event. My team finished 17th position out of about 350 teams. Great result for us.

This Video was one of the warm up laps. I made a video of one complete lap (7KM~) This guy was climbing up the hill, which was about a 4-5% grade for 600 meters.

#2. I have no idea.. Looks like they nicked a body from some old Cruise missile design.

#3. It is a 3 wheel device.. so he just stops and try’s to squeeze himself out of that coffin on wheels.

I found it very hard to strike up a conversation with this chap… It must have been the altitude difference.

Each country must have it’s own long chain collective. It looks like a homage to a rubber duck. I guess this is what you would see in a country like Austria. Though no chains were used in this ad.

Now that it is spinning time again, it made me remember that you used to spin with the Cincinnati Bengals. Can you, without naming names, tell us what kind of shape these huge guys really are in?
