Standard Podcast: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (136)The Two Johns are happy to be back with the latest installment of the podcast. Some podcasts have been longer, some have been shorter & some may have even had more information, but none have been better than this one, our best podcast ever!
We share our bike love as we review this year’s Vuelta: Valverde brings it home, but Moncoutie is the highlight, we make our worlds picks- John G says German, Swiss, Norwegian- John K says Spaniard & Italian & wanna bet? Local news: John G does first cross race of season, marvels at barrier hopping rider, no prep gets you ready for cross, John K gets prepared and says has not had time to race- but actually, I forgot, I did race, but it was quite unremarkable. Listener Feedback is loaded with questions from all over the world: why do we bash the Scots? How do I stretch my bike muscles? Where have the 2 Johns been? The Gentleman Roadie of Portland writes romance fiction, Pedalling Pastor heading to Nepal, who wouldn’t love to ride in Missouri? how do I order Two Johns the…? & more. This week’s prize is not brought to you by Defeet, but by the Two Johns- a coveted Two Johns T-Shirt. Finally, we have the return of Technology where John G talks about his new cross bike & how great the brakes are, while John K talks about fooling around with mechanical advantages by changing the cable straddle location. We bring some extra energy to this, our best podcast ever!

Wrong Eastern Bloc World Champion… John G meant Romans Vainsteins (and his brilliantly retro Rat Tail) in Plouay 2000, not Rumsas. A forgettable race as well from what I recall.

Yes, of course Honest, Romans did not have his wife transporting sensitive materials either.

My prediction for the worlds is Samuel Sanchez of Spain.

I guess that was a big bone-eh on the World RR Championship bet. JK did get a Spaniard on the third step, but I don’t think that should count.
Congrats to Cadel, as he has often been a bridesmaid, or worse.
Also interesting to note that the nations that sported helmet mirrors on their kits did not get involved in the final breaks. Guess when you are looking backwards, guys just keep slipping off the front.
Finally, a little known fact: the Two Johnic rhubric of glasses over straps was originally instated to keep helmet, glasses and side mirror from conflicting with each other.
Can still hear the voices of John and John in the ether debating how many angels can sit on the head of a cross brake caliper…

John G earns a big Ya-Bone-Er for his World Championship picks.
Viva le boner…

What’s your vector Victor?…
You guys were killing me about the explanation of straddle cables. It all comes down to physics and vectors. If the straddle cable is long then most of the force applied by squeezing the lever is upward and less is inward (or clamping the wheel). But as you lower (shorten) the straddle a larger amount of force is directed towards the rim. So for a given increment in pull (lever travel), a shorter straddle will result in more force in the clamping direction than a longer straddle. That’s why you feel modulation is more controlled with a longer straddle and a shorter straddle is “touchier”
No worries. You guys are still the best. I listen to that “Fred” David and his “‘cast” and “round table”. It just makes me more appreciative of what you do.
Now go F yourselves (Seems to be the replacement for ya-bone-a)

Wooly — that is exactly what I was trying to say! i just couldn’t articulate it after 3 beers and 2 hours of podcasting. I concur. Go F*** yourself. John G.

From what I can tell Honest Marc is the TJPC go-to historian/walking almanac … the ultimate record-keeper, really. Like the official scorer in Baseball, it is matter-of-fact.

Merci CB. To be compared to anything remotely connected to baseball, well, its like a dream. Speaking of which, perhaps Ullrich would have fared better as a relief pitcher. No need to worry about those off-season Kgs.
