Special Guest: Saxo Bank’s Bobby Julich
The Tour has just started & the Two Johns are ready with their analysis so far and predictions for the future. John G proclaims himself the seer of the Tour & we both offer up our picks for the coming weeks- and that includes tabloid-esque drama & intrigue on the level of a spanish soap opera.
Bobby Julich joins us again to talk about the Tour & life after racing.
John G. give quick recap of the Hyde Park Blast effort & we dive into this week’s feedback with special guest on Skype , Curtis Z. of Missing Saddle: We get asked, again, What’s that she says? Ya-Bone-Eh? Is the Gentleman Roadie of Portland for real? Gentleman Roadie responds- ‘I know you won’t beleive it, but it is all true’, is the worlds all that?, some many saddles- so much discomfort, Britsh David has tamp-will travel, Rotor Q-Rings- what do you know? Not much, youngsters not putting trash in its place, a bike for every purpose- tt or road?, bibs over jersey guy spotted across the pond, roadies are elitist meanies- that’s why I am a multisporter & more! This week’s selected listener feedback gets a pair of socks & slipstreams by Defeet.

Anyone use the “cychosis” software for iPhone? It gets good reviews but I don’t trust them. Would much prefer direct feedback from a real user and if it’s worth the 5 bucks.

I LOVE the way that monster in Ultra Man was shucking and jiving at about 6:06 seconds in…then was talking smack to UM later on. Why can’t they make um like that anymore?

Derf,
I use the cychosis app on my iPhone (since October 2008) and it does a good job of logging all your rides. Very easy to use and has a flashy graph mode when you tilt the phone. Only niggle for me is that you cant get graphs for past months, only the current one. I would recomend and say its worth the 5 bucks.

….and I screamed like a girl.
I just returned from a nighttime 1.5 hour threshold ride. Coming into the last KM I was deep into my O2 deficit daydream of having Cavendish type power and just riding away from all contenders…my cateye headlamp lighting up the night. Suddenly a rabbit appeared in front of me and I let out the loudest baritone schoolgirl scream my spent lungs could muster. The rabbit shit himself, I almost crashed and then I just couldn’t help but laughing out loud.
I just wanted to share this story with you all maybe solicit Bebe to see if she wants to be my training partner… I think she would be proud of me tonight somehow…
Now, back to my post ride recovery beer(s)

I just had a McDonalds apple pie two days ago. They still make them…around here at least.

James: You must be a young buck. The deux Johnnies were refering the halcyon daze when Ray Kroc would deep fry those apples and that crust and they were indescribably good and would burn the roof of your mouth with hot sauce, boiling lard and scorching apples. In the time of coffee temperature lawsuits, these hot pies were replaced with a lame baked one. Not the same.

I love the idea of you doing a commentary podcast while you watch a stage. Bazzman and Hutch used to do that on the Cycling Insight podcast with sometimes good results.

The bet part was that they were drunk!

Hey how bout dem Versus dudes stealing your closing theme on one of their podcasts!
I was flipping around their site looking for info and trying out their podcast (a waste) and – boom – there it was; that raspy voice slithering out “tour de France”…and the boom, boom of the bass tricking out.
I do believe they literally stole it from you two Jeans!

Thought everyone would get a laugh out of this group on Facebook: The Official Rules of the Euro Cyclist.

Dear Mr Le Gimpe,
Yes it is true that i designed the lance armstrong mug at school, however it was not for private use, yep it was to help the kids with their graphics work. If i had used a rider like Cadel Evans, the kids would have not known who the guy was, The lance mug will be used to stimulate discussion about the astana logo’s, the fonts, and other symbols used. It is a good example of graphical design to help the kids with their work.FRR [The lance mug can be seen on the FRR website]

Sure, blame your man-crush on “the children”
OK, we’ll give you a pass, but careful, when you start to give a gimp the creeps…. Let’s leave it at that.
July 13th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Thank you Mr Le Gimpe may the cycling gods look after you.
and talking about cycling marathon runners Stephen Roche at the age of 49 ran the 2008 new york marathon in 4:21:09, i only wish i could run such a time, 1987 was the first year that you could watch cycling on tv without the satilite, well done channel 4, and Phil and Paul were the presenters.
Should all cyclists run a marathon during their endurance career? all i know even after 27 years it hurt like hell

Random question…I am thinking of buying a cross bike, the one I am looking at is a good deal and has better components than my road bike. Would it be possible to swap the components?
_______________________________
Short answer- some of the components are usable. You will need brakes, maybe crank (depending on what you have), maybe different gearing… the rest of the bits could likely be moved over, but there are also concerns of seat tube diameter for front derailleur mounting, seat post diameter… I did just move all my Shimano bits off my cx bike to sell on another road bike and put some of my campy stuff on the cx bike.

Ludicrous!!
July 16th, 2009 at 6:26 am
Thought so. Maybe I should just buy a new road bike rather than a cross.

Anyone know why Missing Saddle is reposting Velonews’ stuff. MS needs a separate feed for that stuff because anyone who uses RSS and is into cycling is going to be subscribed to Velonews. I like MS’s (original) stuff but I don’t want to have to wade through a bunch of repeats.
I think it threatens to undermine the credibility MS has accumulated through their execellent coverage of the recumulator scene.
Anyhoo, I know Curtis checks this out and I did’n't find a contact link at MS, so I’m just sayin…

Here is something for the conspiracy theorists. Look at the Universal Sports video of Chris Carmichael commenting on stage 7:
http://www.universalsports.com/mediaPlayer/media.dbml?DB_LANG=C&SPSID=105625&SPID=13044&DB_OEM_ID=23000&id=433266&sid=13044
Notice he says that the Contador attack in Andorra WAS planned. He talked about having a conversation with Lance after the stage. Lance said it was planned. Oops! All the boys at the TdeF are saying it wasn’t planned, but we will work it out with the team. I smell a rat. After today’s stage to Verbier it was pretty obvious Contador was killing it. Just think about it.
