Wrapping up the Year

Well, you 2 Johns listeners have been busy little elves this week. We’ve received an unprecedented number of donations (thank you very much) and a few product ideas. Donations go to our mailing and technology expenses and to John K’s recumbent project. As for the product, check out this tee by Fun Run Robbie. Some short of class project with a quotation by Phil Liggett where he inserted his own name instead of Bernard Hinault’s… hmm, interesting.

FRR also threatens to send us coffee mugs emblazened with the same. Other product you may have caught if you’re a twitter follower of ours. Here’s Chip braving the cold with a pair of 2 Johns socks. Limited run only.

Don’t lose heart though. It is our intention to finalize some 2 Johns merchandise for an early January release. After Christmas, I’ll be holed up in northern Michigan without much to do but snowshoe and icefish. I figure I’ll have a least a couple hours a day to talk to the other John and roll out the product. We’ll also get one more podcast out before the New Year. It should feature a review of The Warm Front.

Have a safe holiday — John G.

Special Feature: Product Review of epicPLANET.tv

For those of you looking for something to get John G for Christmas you might do well to consider this stylish number that will let Vegas John carry his persona from the strip to the road & back to the club with nary missing a beat.  Featuring the layered look of outer poly jacket, mid-layer paisley top and white mock turtle neck (or is it a base layer?) the top may be smartly paired with some of the former Carrera Team denim tights for the finishing touch.

In the mean time the Two Johns are back with the most recent podcast where we discuss the speed of Twitter and are they here to stay?, John K breaks out the pie charts and stats attempting to prove mtb’g still has a heart beat, John G takes a video bike tour through the green mountain state in the first formal product review segment.  The the main course:  Listener Feedback where we discuss the expansive subject of Quality, spinning class turtle necks, training questions, Brits/crossbars/racers, chopping power of paired spoke wheels & tire pressure.

There are a lot of things I like about this photo, which was recently submitted by the Flahute In Training. It’s like one of those games in the Sunday funny papers where you have to find the ten bunny rabbits hidden in the picture. Here are my favorite parts: 1) the USCF Blue Shirt standing there with his hands in his pockets wearing a helmet, no bike in evidence, 2) the woman with crutches. why is her sweater/top layer so small? is it borrowed? did it shrink in the wash? how did she hurt her knee? and, most importantly, is she wearing a sports kilt? 3) back to the Blue Shirt – is that an official USA Cycling referee’s badge sewn to his shirt or is it hanging from a lanyard? is it homemade? is he proud of of it and how much do you make for being the brunt of riders’ complaints on any given Sunday.

Anyway, thanks Flahute for the pic. Looks like he has been training, but his seat may be too far forward and his cuffs are most definitely flipped up.

Special Guest: Lots of emails!

This latest edition of the Two Johns Podcast is all email.  Our brief respite from the normal format with the ‘Special Holiday Gift Guide Podcast’ last week left a build up of emails coming in more rapidly than Hello Kitty can make more of her clone army.  They could only be handled by putting all else aside and spending 2 1/2 hours rummaging through topics such as: Comfort & Style, Camelbacks, How do I score a used pro bike?, wheels, rain riding… this week’s winners get special swag & the Slipstreams by Defeet.

We received two today. They have absolutely nothing to do with each other, but are interesting none the less. The first illustrates why I will continue to say “schwag” not “swag”, the second is a clipping from my last race as a category 3 at the long-gone A to Z Cycling Classic in Athens, Ohio.
