Standard Podcast: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (309)Special guest this week: Frankie Andreu
It has been a long week for the Two Johns but we always have our eyes open to learn. Lesson learned from Hello Kitty: We know she has multiplied herself exponentially. One way she does this is by making mechandise that makes more of her. No, this is not the Shroud of Turin, but it is a peice of toast that bears her likeness- and she can make more just like it. Yes, must make more… must obey HK. What does this have to do with the podcast? It seems listener feedback is following the same course! Another podcast filled with close to 20 emails of all sorts. We start off with a warming story of hope: the Recumbulator Dater doesn’t judge a book by its cover, British David can’t get away from mulitsporters, John G. gets called Lorenzo Lamas, Kenny Loggins and a couple others things, someone gets ‘goosed’ and TwoJohnic Law & Holy Kaibosh is proposed . First we talk about form (what is it exactly?), cross racing, an interview with Frankie Andreu, John G reports on his new bike and John K discusses bushings v. bearings. Let the podcast play and get ready to take the highway to the danger zone with the Two Johns!

My ladyfriend is absolutely obsessed with HK and happens to own that toaster. In fact, on our very first date she insisted that we stop by her house and have toast made with the HK propaganda machine.
I think that HK needs to be seriously taken down a notch, lest we all succumb to the behemoth of marketing that is the tiny white cat.
Has anyone noticed Nick Reistad’s blog getting a lil political? Become an elected official, become a part of ‘the man’.
Great interview with Frankie Andreu and I’m in agreeance with JK…something still smells a little funny with Toyota-United.
Also, I don’t know if everyone’s aware but Toyota-United is selling EVERYTHING they own to the highest bidder. Lots of “PRO” stuff that you and I can’t normally buy.

Twitter:
I believe that the verb is: to “Twitter”, or “Twittering” and the stream is called a “Twitter feed.” Definitely do not use the word “Twit” in any way. Please.
When you make a post on Twitter, it is called a ‘tweet’. So, I guess the verb must be to ‘tweet’ (or to ‘Twitter’ as A Wife points out). TWiT is the trademark of This Week in Tech, Leo Laporte’s huge podcasting network which clearly preceded Twitter, so the people at Twitter are careful not to infringe.
a few things:
-the cyclist from the “deep south” may want to realize that his actions are not responsible for anyone’s opinion of anyone else, even if those people are cyclists like he is.
-disc brakes are superior. When using disc brakes, even if they are heavier on the aggreagate, they allow you to use lighter weight rims without braking surfaces. So, any extra weight is at the hub, rather than in the rims. two reasons this is important:
1) rotating mass is twice as critical to acceleration as static weight.
2) ‘cross is a sprint from the gun, and constant re-acceleration throughout the race. The lighter weight the rims, the faster the acceleration.
-further, the pads aren’t constantly wearing down the rims with sand and shit being ground into the surfaces.
However, it is illegal to race discs in UCI races, and if you are caught TRAINING with discs, you can be disqualified from racing. I shit you not. I didn’t believe it at first either, but it’s true.
Yikes, What such a bad rap against Disks anyways? Is there any safety reasons why they are not allowed? I’m sure that all the big bike makers have checked the safety of them to make sure they are OK. One could almost imagine a conspiracy where “the man” is trying to keep disks out…
I’m living in Japan now and Hello Kitty RULES all here.. We must bow down to the kitty in our daily lives and succumb to it’s all knowing power… we must be assimilated into HK culture as one would be assimilated into the borg.. I even had a HK thumb bell for my commuter bike (no shit) until I smacked bars with someone going the other way and the bell was destroyed… I wonder how much bad HK Karma I caused for myself on that one!

Better keep your eyes on the Iceman website if you want to do the race in 2009. This year was a lottery, but last year was online sales, and the whole friggin thing sold out in January in a couple of hours. I am guessing that we could probably get you in anyhow….
I’ve never used disks but, as thin as they are, I imagine they get pretty hot. Then you have these cross turkeys picking them up and waving them around…. Maybe they are worried about burns. Anyone ever get burned by these things?
Like many “rules” in cycling, there may be dozens of weak arguments used to simply justify tradition. It’s just part of the charm of cycling.
A couple of podcasts ago, JG mentioned that he had a friend that followed LA’s twitter posts so I decided to have a look.
Big Tex recently remarked that he’s just completed his FIFTH out of competition UCI drug test.
…insert crappy 80′s song here: “I always feel like, somebody’s watchin’ me…oh oh oh.”
Rules really are meant to be broken. ^^

There is an explanation as to why the UCI doesn’t allow disc brakes in cyclocross in velonews’ the explainers article.
There is?
