A can of it will be opened tomorrow by Liquigas and/or Columbia. I am looking forward to see how Garmin can defend against it. How many attacks can VDV cover? Will Columbia ride for Rogers or Hincapie? What is Liquigas’ play with Nibali? We should find out tomorrow. The bit of the course north of I-44 is super hilly. It will not be an easy day.

Oh yeah, as part of my duties at the TT I had to act as mechanic for Cavendish. Columbia was stretched thin with cars and mechanics following other riders so we organized a spare car for them. Bob Stapleton drove and rode in the back seat with a spare set of wheels. It’s a fairly pressurized situation during a tt. If a rider flats in a road stage they can usually chase back on through the cars. A mechanical in a tt means lost time. Luckily I did not have to do anything.

Sounds like you are doing great stuff, and having great fun. I was very happy for VDV and his win yesterday. What a tragedy about Caldwell. I saw him at TofUtah and was impressed. I wish he had pipped Tyler at nationals before this happened. He could at least wear the stars ‘n stripes while he sits in his hospital bed. Hope you get lots of team action today. Be safe.

So, is everyone at the race talking about the return of the great one (no, I am not talking about Jesus)? It is surprising how many people at the factory where I work bring this up. These are NOT cycling fans, but there is an awareness that no one else brings to the sport.

I think that (not Jesus) is coming back because the Two Johns didn’t rank him as the #1 American cyclist of all time. Way to go guys, now we have to deal with him again. Why couldn’t you just appease him until he was definitely too old to return.
