Olympics Report #2
Posted in Interview on 21. Aug, 2008
We talk to Todd in Beijing after rain delayed mountain and BMX events. One of his Trek stores is just across the street from the BMX, track, and mountain venues. You can read Todd’s daily Olympic blog by clicking here.

I think the BMX riders are clipped in afterall. They showed some closeups in the races today and I am pretty sure I saw some mountain shoes on those guys. Did anyone else see that?
Hey – there is a reader submitted photo on Velonews from an Ault Park crit, there is a rider in what looks like a Huntington kit and riding maybe Aeolus wheels ….. Could it be one of the Johns ?!?

Some BMXers clip in and others do not. It is a preference thing. I did see the same footage that you are talking about, and most of them were wearing a typical mountian bike style shoe with clipless pedals. It has been a few years since I have had anything to do with BMX but the pedal of choice used to be a shimano spd pedal with a platform around it.
Add to Craig Hummer’s list of events that he does commentary:
Tour de France
Olympic Road Race
Pro Bull Riding
Synchronized Swimming

White Shoes. White Shades. White Tape. Black Socks ??
They are not black socks. They are navy blue with green toes and heels. They match the navy blue/green shorts and green/white jerseys. Black would definitely by a quality fashion breech. Don’t despair, the Queer Eyes for the Straight/Fred Guys would be proud with the blue socks.
Actually white shoes with black socks are in right now. I sport a pair myself. I have also seen some of the big names around Boulder wearing them.
Speaking of those guys did you know Tom Danielson has his own line of coffee? You can check it out at tdcoffee.com
It would be interesting to hear the 2Js review it.
I thought as much on the socks – just trying for a friendly yet cheap jab.
I agree with the “cool” factor of black socks, but they definitely don’t work with the Huntington kit. I applaud the critique. Since the 2js are cycling fashionista’s (sp?), they need to walk-the-walk if they are going to talk-the-talk.
Anyone going to jab at the carbon wheels/skinsuit in a training race? (unless of course the rear is the only Poweratap wheel available for use)
I would think a better-matching helmet could have been found. Or even that ubiquitous all-white (though trimmed in chrome) helmet that many sponsored teams are on this year. The blue of this one doesn’t seem quite right … a distraction, really.
