Some say it is the amplified sound of a tire going flat, others say it is the schizophrenic musings of one person talking in his sleep… all we know is that it is called The Two Johns Podcast! This week the Two Johns talk Tour Wrap up, hot women racing- listener feedback that includes saddle sore talk, book club, having tatoo of yourself on your shoulder, power drain, toxic sweat, clydesdale fork concerns, a subject that will remain unspoken but is often accompanied by beards, style & much, much more. Listener Feedback award as always brought to you by our friends at Defeet.

Yeeee Haaaa! Love it or leave it!!! Let the war continue JK. By the way, I think the 2Js assumption regarding the Sastre victory is off the mark. I think Riis played the card he had always planned to play. Sastre was team leader coming into the Tour and the plan was for him to win. It worked out perfectly that F Schleck was in Yellow in the last week. CSC would have lost the Tour to Evans if either of the Schleck’s had remained in Yellow. Evan’s was marking F Schleck and A Schleck was not a threat. If Sastre had been caught, then I agree that F Schleck would have tried to drop Evans but I don’t think he would have taken enough time to hold off Evans in the TT (especially with the way he rode the TT…although I really have to believe it was a “carrot strategy” by Riis.)

did u say hot girls in Bike Racing? really?
i can see Beach VolleyBall,Tennis. I dont even now why
they race bikes. If you cant race in a 2 piece bathing suit, then whats the point.
I remember when the WNBA went to tight skin suit uniforms what a shock that was.

If you haven’t read bikesnobnyc today, you’re missing out. The take on Cervelo commercials was perfect.

I know we aren’t talking about arms under or over again, but it did come up in the current podcast….

Sastre and Schleck had their arms under for the time trial because they were using the Oakley Radar’s that have flat arms so that they would fit under his time trial helmet easier. Check them out on most of the other stages, and they were wearing Radars with bent arms over the straps.

I don’t know if Sastre’s move on the Alpe was planned to succeed or not, but one thing I do know is that he was the only one who committed to his attack. I think that Evan’s was hurting more than he was letting on to after his crash. When you break a helmet from impact and have cuts on your jersey between your shoulder blades it’s one nasty crash. I think he was not 100% in the Alp’s and when he tried the power in the TT it just wasn’t there.

Good points hermit. Good reference on the bikesnobnyc link. I thought the take on White/Vaughters was also on the mark. Talk about staged. It’s like Paul and Phil would press the “you’re on the air” button that would flash on the dash to let them know the camera was running. Vaughters has to be the least motivating director I have heard. I miss the days of Bruyneel screaming out the window at the Disco riders…”Venga! Venga! Venga!! Then swearing at them in 7 languages. If I heard Vaughters telling me that I was “looking good” in that monotone voice as my tongue was dragging on the ground, I would have ripped off my ear piece.

The TJ’s talked about wanting to do TDF commentary. I think it would be really cool if they actually did a podcast where they covered the stage of a big race live. Then we could listen to it while watching the stage later on the web or Tivo, etc. It would be a lot of fun to listen to a podcast race commentary while watching a stage.

  8. Kent Says:

DD, Are you refering to Manolo Saiz?

  9. Beth Says:

I am hot. I race. While we are few and far between I believe it is the lack of womens participation in the sport if anything else.

Why aren’t there any hot, single guys in their late twenties racing?

  10. john Says:

Kent, I was thinking the same thing- DD has Saiz’s former rider confused with Saiz himself.

Beth- Although I cannot attest to your hotness, I think you are right about the participation comment. Since moving to NC, I am impressed at the higher level of women’s racing & participation at some (not all) regional events compared to ohio valley races with maybe 4-8 women. There needs to be a field to make racing dynamic. There is rarely interesting racing without a decent field- but who wants to participate in a poorly attended race?

  11. urbanhermit Says:

Beth, Do you ride a “woman specific” model?

The reason I ask, is that all the big players in the industry are making bikes targeted towards woman, yet the only one I see frequently is the Orbea (JK’s favorite) Diva.

Just curious, and if you do or don’t, what’s your opinion / experience with them?

Now if I was only in my late 20’s, single, and hot…

  12. Beth Says:

I do ride a woman specific bike. I kind of have to as I am on the smaller scale…both in height and weight as well as short waisted. I have an XS framed Giant TCR compW. While it’s no ORbea, I find it much better suited to my riding style. The guys I ride with comment that it looks freakish because it just HUGE wheels and this itty frame. I love it. They are just salty cause I smoke them on the climbs.:)

I ride a non-womens specific GT Avalanche 3.0. But I find since the sitting position is more erect it is fine for me.

When are the 2 John’s in the DC area?
