new podcast May 27th, 2008
Enhanced podcast in m4a format (ipod): Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (272)
MP3 file of podcast: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (183)We love our listeners & their contributions. This bumper sticker was provided by one of them. It is to be strategically placed on the lower corner of rear glass & would help anyone show their affiliation with the Two Johns.
In this latest podcast we talk about possibly the best bike race of the year, John’s cabin fever, we read emails in no particular order and the winner is a grown man intimidated by other cyclists further up the food chain. As usual, the winner will receive a pair of socks & slipstreams compliments of our good friends at Defeet!

Hey Guys - thanks for the sound advice on getting into the club riding/racing scene. I’ve already been doing what you suggested for awhile now so it is nice to have you support my ideas. Looking forward to the killer swag!
Ps. BMX Track racing is alive and well in Texas.

Welshsuperfan,
When I won the lovely swag-stuff a few months ago the ever esteemed North Dakota Mountain Man sent me an extra pair of defeet socks. They are white with red lettering. I haven’t used them, my team kit is blue. Would you like them?
May 29th, 2008 at 4:43 am
They sound nice and would fit my team kit problem is they wouldnt fit me as I wear 48 size shoes. Thank you for the offer. Which team do you ride for and which part of the UK are you? Im off racing later in a crit and frankly im not looking forward to it at all.

Hey I’m in Austin and can give a bit of advice (or at least my thoughts) on the local teams for TX Soul Rider. From the start, though, I can tell you that Velossimo is pretty solid and has both a club team and a race team (I’m not on it, I’m not just here talking about how sweet my team is).
If you want to email me, you can get me at litch at clm.utexas.edu.

British David….Hope you see this. I just got a mangled package back at my house yesterday with the shoes I sent you inside. I don’t know if it was british post or uspost but I sent them a long time ago. Where have they been all this time. I figured you were wearing them already. I lost your e-mail, so send me one if you see this. I am going to try a different mail carrier.

British David are they the overshoes in white if so I could do you a swap for some Assos socks I won tonight.

NIMM & British David- I am thoroughly confused. My review of things: British David wins feedback of the week, NIMM volunteers to send shoes to British David, in appreciation I send NIMM two sets of white socks and slipstreams (compliments of defeet)- one set for NIMM and one set to be sent with British David’s shoes. How would British David get the socks to give to Welshsuperfan if the shoes were returned to NIMM in a banged up box? Huh?

JK, JG is going to win the bet concerning Astana’s ride in the TDF this year. No way will ASO back down. You might as well pay up now. You’re reasoning and this is politics and pride. Will be fitting if Astana bookends the TDF with victories in the Giro and Vuelta.

Today’s stage: That is bike racing!
May 30th, 2008 at 9:39 am
Thanks god there’s no Disco/Astana meat grinder… yet. There’s still another day in the mountains. GC guys are riding make or break attacks. The riders actually look human (vs. Basso in 2006). The racing, the product, is exciting. The Giro is cookin!
Many alleged doping convicted or suspected riders going continental teams due to Pro Tour team bans. Looks like the top tier of pro tour teams now on par with the continental teams. The LPR Brakes and Serramenti teams are having amazing rides. Does this validate the grand tour organaizer’s position that having a rigid Pro Tour system is bad for racing (being forced to invite teams that have little interest being there)? Or have many of the Pro Tour teams fielded the ‘b’ team for the Giro?
Any thoughts?

I’ve gotta give it up to Kloden. For almost ten years, we’ve been watching this guy haul some “superstar” team mate up a climb. He did it for Ullrich, Vino, and now Contador. I think he’s a great rider and I hope that Romandie was only the start of a great season for him.
Also a friend pointed me to a cycling site that I’d never heard of before: cycleto.com. They’ve got some real cool and unique behind-the-scenes video of the giro. Check it out.

Oh! So much explaining to do.
NIMM (this acronym business is difficult for a start) is so nice that he forwarded the socks early because the shoes were on back order. He sent his swag too, as he says that he didn’t need oversocks. (What is the climate like in North Dakota?)
My team kit is a lovely shade of blue, rock on Dulwich Paragon, so I have yet to use the extra socks. In spate of rasta ‘paying-it-forward’-ness, I heard of Welshsuperfan’s plight and offered him some socks.
I never received the shoes, but assumed that the postal system had messed up. In case they hadn’t, i didn’t try to make any contact in case I seemed impatient or rude. What can I say? I’m british. The post around here is renowned for being terrible. I really want to thank NIMM again for his generosity. In the mean time, I used a glue gun to fix the sole of my shagged show, but that snapped pretty quickly. I then re-inforced it with an extra wedge of plastic. Its not cool.
So that is the story.
PS Welshsuperfan, email me at sixeasypieces@gmail.com
PPS NIMM, I’m willing to pay for the postage with a different carrier, thank you again for helping me out so much.

wow, what a Giro.
For the first time ever, I’m looking forward to the Vuelta!

Emanuele Selle road the Giro out of his mind. He was in two breakaways, winning consecutive mountain stages. In the very next stage, he came within 6 seconds of winning the mountain TT. In the two alpine stages, he finished with the GC contenders and won the second. Not bad for a week at the office.

I just discovered your podcast and listened to a recent one this morning. My ears pricked up a bit when you mentioned the guy scootering with four huskies. I also am a participant in that other fringe sport.
I am an old bike racer from the George Mount and John Howard years when road racing was also a fringe sport. I was waning when LeMond was a rising star.
Now I run dogs to vicariously experience youth again. I have retired my huskies and gone over to using German Shorthairs. I just started a new blog about it at http://www.skijorbikejorcanicross.blogspot.com
I like your podcast. Your jokes about the recumbent riders and the bibs over jersey guy make me chuckle. Keep it up.
