Arizona Bound

And not a moment too soon. Kentucky/Indiana Series race cancelled. The white death is coming! Multiple inches of snow, the sky is falling…

A good time to head southwest to Scottsdale for some training with the Desert Dog and a visit to Missing Saddle HQ in Tucson to see what CZ and Skiles are up to. The DD says Saturday’s group ride will be a hammerfest as there are no races in the vicinity.

Lastly. Why the pictures of the Lamborghini? Why not, I say. It was parked in my building lot today. Anyone know the model?

  2. Jackson says:

Definitely the Gallardo (pronounced Guy-ardo)Spyder. Similar to what I drive on the weekends when the Koenigsegg is in the shop.

  3. john says:

    What year and MSRP?

  4. Curtis From MissingSaddle says:

I beg to differ, I believe it is the more basic Gallardo SE, or aka “the new ‘entry level’ Lamborghini”

does not go to 360 MPH like the Murcielago or the Diablo…

dare I ask John where do you work? I have seen that car parked in front of Jerry McNastys gentlemen’s club…

    too many roller workouts…;)

  11. Jackson says:

I thought the Tesla was simply an electric Lotus Elise. Am I wrong?

  12. Bill in Atlanta says:

That’s how I understood the Tesla.

The Tesla and the Atom are both pretty interesting.

  13. jg in pdx says:

Visit the Tesla site – there is a discussion regarding the number of parts that the Lotus and the Tesla share, as well as an explanation of their major differences. They share less than 7% of their parts by parts count. By comparison, Lamborghini shares 10% of their parts with Audi’s.

Are there better shows than Top Gear & 5th Gear? YouTube has justified its existence in making those shows available! Tiff drifting, rubbish this, dodgy that- it is all top drawer stuff. The Tesla has batteries stuffed in every nook and cranny.

Yes, you anglophiles, bow down to the might of James May. The above post must’ve come from John the Abstainer, other John is too french to appreciate this, surely?

  16. Jackson says:

John in NC, do you watch Top Gear on You Tube? You know it comes on BBC America, right?

  17. john says:

Jackson & British David, I don’t think the other John knows of James May and his slow might. I do not have a feed that carries BBC America, but I do watch You Tube on the ‘telly’.

  18. British David says:

John, I feel that you are ready to be introduced to the ultimate in the dichotomous world of brilliant/naff telly: QI. Its basically 5 guys, headed by the legend Stephen Fry, trying really hard to be interesting and often failing. Go on, youtube it.

  19. MoabMule says:

British David from post 15 & 18. Is that the starving student David in England? If so, I’ve got an idea for your cheap “gel” or “gu” question you asked months ago.

  20. British David says:

This is the student, I’m all ears. I tried making my own isotonic energy drink a few weeks ago, disaster.

  21. MoabMule says:

Keep it simple. This is it.
    Brown rice syrup.
I buy it by the jar at our natural foods store. Brown rice syrup is the main ingredient in many of the gu’s/gel’s on the market. It’s ok plain but if you add 1/2 capful of orange extract it’s more palatable. I have also added vanilla extract which I like. What I like the most is almond extract. This homemade gu ends up tasting like the liqueur Amaretto.
You can buy these little ~4 oz. containers with a pop top on the screw on/off cap. These work great and last for years.
It ends up costing about 35-45 cents per shot compared to about 99 cents to $1.25 for the packets.
You’ve got to get your electrolytes from somewhere else but for a simple blast of energy to get you through a ride it works well … and it’s cheap! :)

  22. Jackson says:

Heck Moab, I might try that this week. Might fill up little zip lock baggies.

  23. British David says:

Moabmule, that is genius. Will try, and report back with findings.

  24. john says:

British David- thanks for the QI tip- it is quite interesting at times… what a surprise to see ‘Sniglets’ creator, Rich Hall, on the show. It looks like he does alot of work for BBC, but here we may remember him from such impersonations as, Paul Harvey & Doug Henning on Saturday Nght Live & Not Neccessarily the News.

  25. British David says:

Oh yeah, Rich Hall is always over here – with his alter ego Otis Lee Crenshaw. Stereotypes really are the bees knees; so I know that North Carolina, as one of the last Confederate states to secede to the union, is full of hicks. Fact. (joking). Just completed first ride with socks, 45 degrees F, and my toes remained toasty. Thank you. Shoes arrive next week. I’m blessed.
