Additional emails from 1/16/08 Podcast
emails January 17th, 2008These are the emails we did not read on the podcast. They are not any less funny, interesting, or otherwise unworthy. We are just trying to make the cast a little more concise. The idea is for you to read them then make comment. So, go on. Read them. Good. Now make a comment.

Hi twojohns,
Greetings from indoor trainer land. I just recieved this email and thought it was a great idea (and no I don’t work for them.) I’ve heard questions on the podcast before about saddle selection and since I’ll be in the market soon, I might give this a try and report back to you.

Dear Johns,
You guys should know that the 10s chains are throw-aways after a link
has been broken. I believe the pins are inserted with a very precise,
laser-calibrated machine. Have you guys used the Connex chains?
They’re a little heavier but seem to hold up better. They also come
with the quick link so you can pull it off the bike and clean it
easily.
Rock Racing is really wierd, you guys should have seen the promo vid
at Interbike, I got a good chuckle out of it. Michael Ball even got
some press on BikeSnobNYC.blogspot.com. He wasn’t as forgiving as you
guys were.
Are you guys going to try and make it out here for the Tour of
California? Let me know if you need some lodging, we’re 3 blocks aways
from an awesome bar the has LaChouffe on tap, all sorts Trappistes
ales, and THE PIRAAT!
Take care

Johns,
After taking a little too much time off, trying to get back into it. What should I focus on? Can’t really ride due to the questionable weather and the lack of light.

Email 1: Saddle demo is a great idea if you are unsure of which one to choose.
Email 2: Yes, I have tried conex chains. Broke 2 of them and switched back to Campy. No tour of cali’ for me.
Email 3: Superfan - base, sub-threshold miles are in your future. Lots of them…

For what it is worth, I’ve ridden connex chains for a few years without a break, UCI team also rode them for a number of seasons without incident. I have broken so many campag chains that I used to train with a chain tool in my saddle bag.
Hasta,
Kirk
